Community Academy Girls Make First Team Debut

Hibernian Community Academy duo Hannah Reid and Astrud Nevin made their first team debuts in Hibs’ 2-0 victory over Montrose on Sunday. 

The teenagers were substituted onto the pitch in the 70^th minute of the match, earning their first professional minutes for the Hibees as they prepared for the upcoming season with a 2-0 victory at home to newly promoted Montrose. 

The Academy graduates had spent the week training with the first team, getting up to speed and being in amongst the group prior to the opening pre-season friendly.

Astrud, who was born in 2007, joined the Community Academy in May 2022, with 2006 born Hannah being a part of the Academy since July 2021.

It was almost a memorable first appearance in green and white for Astrud Nevin, when she forced the Montrose ‘keeper into a terrific save towards the end of the game.

After some neat build up play around the 18-yard-box, Nevin struck the ball sweetly with her lobbed attempt being tipped over the bar for a corner.

Speaking to the hibernianfc.co.uk after the game, Hibs Women’s Manager, Grant Stott, commented: 

“Bringing in Academy players, we all know as it’s been said before, is something this club is known for.

“The girls have been in all week and that’s a little bit of a reward for them for working hard throughout and getting some match time today.

“It exposes the players to a different level of football and its massively important.”

The Community Academy offers girls aged 8-18 a safe and nurturing football environment, establishing a progressive player pathway across all age groups.
