David Gray’s ‘Cycle For Autism’ Recap

‘Sir’ David Gray completed the gruelling ‘Journey Home From Hampden’ cycle on Sunday 5 May 2024, raising funds for our Team United programme.

David was joined by 52 Hibernian FC supporters and members of the Club’s coaching staff as they cycled the 53 miles from Hampden Park to Easter Road Stadium, raising vital funds to support the development and expansion of our Team United programme. There are currently over 250 autistic and neurodiverse children taking part in tailored football coaching sessions through Team United.

Participants were given the opportunity to go pitch side at Hampden Park before being brought up to the Presentation Area, the spot where Gray famously lifted the Scottish Cup in 2016, where the Scottish Cup Trophy was on display.

Participants in the cycle have raised an incredible £25,000 so far, which will provide the necessary funding to enable a further 180 children to play football through the Team United programme.

We would like to send a special thank you to our lead sponsors for this event, The Hibernian, for their incredibly kind donation of £4,000. The Hibernian is a fan-produced matchday programme which is available to purchase before every SPFL home fixture. Our work in the community would not be possible without their continued support.

Copies can be picked up at the following locations:

· The Hibernian Club Store,

· Edinburgh City F.C. Social Club,

· Alhambra Bar

· Almondvale Programmes

· The East Stand Gates at Easter Road

· Hibernian Supporters Club.

We would also like to thank Leith Cycle Co., who provided technical support for the cycle. Their expertise was welcomed throughout the event, as they gave all bikes a pre-safety check, and were on hand to fix any issues on-the-day.

Leith Cycle Co. is a small family run shop based on Leith Walk. They supply a wide range of bikes and accessories for all the family and have a fully equipped workshop in store. The Leith Cycle staff outshone themselves and provided a substantial contribution to the success of the cycle.
