HCF at the Edinburgh Kiltwalk: An Incredible Day with an Incredible Surprise!

Yesterday, Sunday September 14, the Hibernian Community Foundation once again participated in a staple of our yearly fundraising calendar: The Edinburgh Kiltwalk.

The Hibernian Community turned out in force with over 150 passionate members decked out in Hibs’ green and purple to walk. While some selected the longer routes of the Mighty Stride and Big Stroll, the majority of our walkers trecked from Victoria Park in Leith through to Scottish Gas Murrayfield as part of the Wee Wander.

Before the walkers were set on their way, HCF Chief Executive Ann Brown was offered the chance to speak at the start line in front of all participating walkers. Ann spoke about the efforts all walkers had gone to in fundraising over the course of the last two months, targeting £150 per person to celebrate 150 years of Hibernian Football Club.

Ann also spoke about all the work that HCF does in the Leith and Edinburgh community, touching on our mission to provide support, meals, a warm space and footballing opportunities for anyone in our community.

“This is a really important day for the Foundation, it’s great to have so many members together with our community club, girls and boys academies, as well as some members from the men’s team,” said Ann following the walk.

“The money raised from fundraising for today will support us throughout the year in providing community supplies, activities and equipment for the Foundation.”

Following her speech and before the walkers were left for Murrayfield, Ann was surprised by Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation with an additional £5,000 for HCF as part of their ‘Happiest Minute’ initiative. The donation is a recognition of the hard work, effort and sheer quantity of walkers that turned out for HCF in 2025.

“Thank you to everyone who has fundraised throughout this time, your efforts are incredibly appreciated.

“A big thank you also to Sir Tom Hunter and The Hunter Foundation for recognising the hard work of the Hibernian Community Foundation and all our supporters with this extra £5,000. It make a great difference in the work we’re doing.”

Our walkers were joined by Hibs’ men’s players Joe Newell, Warren O’Hora, Jordan Smith and Jack Iredale at Victoria Park as they departed and battled the elements on their walk. A special mention to Jordan Smith for participating in the entire walk, pushing his children the whole way in a double buggy.

Over the next few weeks we will gather all fundraising from the last two months before publishing our finalised achievements, with a mammoth effort from all walkers looking promising for a record Kiltwalk return. We will also be sharing all photos taken yesterday in the days to follow.

Thank you to all members of the Hibernian Community that turned out yesterday and fundraised over the last two months, your efforts will make a real difference.
