HCF at the Parkinson’s Scottish Cup

Last Saturday, June 6, The Hibernian Community Foundation was represented at the 2026 Parkinson’s Scottish Cup by our team of Parkinson’s Walking Footballers, eager to make their mark on the national level.

The squad, which consists of 10 footballers aged between 55 and 75, both male and female, travelled through to Glasgow Green to represent HCF.

The team played five games in challenging and uncompromising conditions, but never waned as they strived to take it to their competition. It was a day of mixed results for the squad, as they drew two, lost two, but still took a victory back to Edinburgh.

A journey to be proud of, the tournament was a great experience for HCF’s Parkinson’s footballers, with victory never the main purpose of the day.

“We’re incredibly proud to offer the opportunity of Parkinson’s Football at HCF,” said Community Project Officer, Erin McComisky.

“Wins and losses are not the goal of days like today. It’s always great to win, but we’ve won already by being here and having over 60 people living with Parkinson’s coming together to compete on a national level.”

Three weeks prior to the Parkinson’s Football Scottish Cup, HCF hosted a session of friendlies at World of Football Chesser on May 14, providing the opportunity for our team to meet and compete with other Scottish Parkinson’s footballers. Four teams competed and played out a series of competitive friendlies, testing one another and getting themselves up-to-speed before the Scottish Cup.

The last few months have been busy for HCF’s Parkinsons Walking Football, with the team recently entering a partnership with The Ootsider. The Ootsider design and manufacture garments for the homeless and rough sleepers across Edinburgh. Through consultation with the team, The Ootsider designed specially-altered coats for the Parkinsons footballers, with custom modifications making it easier for those living with the condition.

The Ootsider team came to us with an idea, and it was a perfect match,” said Erin.

“We’re incredibly grateful for what they have done for the team, and to have them as trusted partners.”
