HCF Year In Review 2025: Walking Football

With 2025 now in the rear-view, it's time to look back and celebrate the achievements, progress and growing participation across all teams in our Walking Football Programme.

In 2025, HCF proudly fielded three Walking Football squads. All three competed in their respective Scottish Cup competitions, while Over-50s and Over-60s teams also took part in the Walking Football leagues and the Raith Rovers Christmas Cup.

“At HCF we’re all about providing access to football, regardless or you age, skill level or physical ailments,” said Samantha Windram, Football Development Manager.

“We are really proud of what we offer with Walking Football, and we hope to grow this area in 2026 and beyond.”

Over-50s Team: Promotion Secured

Competing in the Championship for the second consecutive year, HCF’s Over-50s team took the title race right to the wire. Entering the final league meet level on points at the top of the table, the season ended with Linlithgow Rose crowned champions. However, Hibernian CF joined them in earning promotion to the Premiership. They are now looking forward to testing themselves against the best the country has to offer in the new year.

Over-60s Team: Impressive Debut Season

This year marked the first ever campaign in the Over-60s league. The team showed impressive development throughout the season, competing strongly and finishing in an excellent 3rd place, only narrowly missing out on promotion. With solid foundations now in place, confidence is growing to push on even further in 2026.

Parkinson’s Walking Football: Growing Participation

HCF’s Parkinson’s Walking Football programme continues to strengthen, with increased participation and a supportive, welcoming environment for all players. At the Parkinson’s Walking Football Festival held in November, Hibernian CF finished 3rd in the group stages, just missing out on progressing to the knockout rounds.

“This year we have built on the foundations laid by Niamh Westwood,” said Erin McComisky, Community Project Officer.

“Our Parkinson’s team has gone from strength to strength, and I look forward to continue our work together moving forward, and hopefully getting more people involved.

HCF would like to extend our sincere thanks to Walking Football Scotland for their ongoing support, and to all our players for their commitment, enthusiasm, and dedication throughout the season. Your efforts continue to drive the success of our Walking Football programme.
