2025 was a year of growth in the support the Hibernian Community Foundation provided the elderly community surrounding Easter Road through the Leith Older People’s Project.
In total, HCF, often in collaboration with community partners, delivers more than 8 activities over the course of a week: Community Choir, Monday Matchdays, Football Memories, Still Gamers, Community Lunches, the Craft Café, Tai Chi and Chair Yoga.
These programmes have been implemented in an effort to increase access to community outings for the elderly population, while also providing warm and healthy meals, classes to increase mobility, and sessions to maintain active minds.
Over the course of 2025, HCF engaged with approximately 480 participants per week in the Community Hub, with multiple attendees regularly frequenting more than one of the aforementioned activities.
“We deliver a range of activities that offer physical and mental stimulation,” said Eleanor Conway Holroyd, HCF Community Activity Worker.
“Our activities are provided to reduce social isolation, financial hardship and improve health and wellbeing in older adults.
In addition to the weekly activities, each quarter we host Tea Dances at the Hibernian Supporters Club in Sunnyside. These dances invite members from all parts of the community and are run in partnership with Edinburgh Community Sport and Leisure, and Pilmeny Development Project, offering 90 attendees each quarter the chance to gather, share an afternoon tea and dance with one another, soundtracked by our resident crooner.

The Leith Older People’s Project isn’t possible without funding from the National Lottery, which has enabled us to coordinate, facilitate and deliver our activities. Further funding from the SPFL Trust has also allowed us to deliver the SGN Game Energy programme where over 30 participants each week benefit from tailored advice and support on various issues; such as cost of living, fire safety and staying warm in winter.
In January 2026 HCF will be launching our Befriending scheme where inclusion volunteers will provide a sociable and supportive presence at community lunches. The Community Choir relaunched in September 2025 and has engaged with over 18 community members, performing over the Christmas period at the Edinburgh Young Carer’s Winter Wonderland event.
Towards the end of 2025 HCF filmed two activities for our elerdlery community members, with help from videographer Samuel Beer. To watch both, please click below.
