Hibernian Community Foundation Celebrates the Ron Gordon Football Classic 2026 at Easter Road

On Saturday, May 23, The Hibernian Community Foundation were thrilled to host the Ron Gordon Football Classic 2026 at Easter Road Stadium, in what was a great day for all members of the Hibernian Community.

Saturday was the fourth edition of HCF’s annual celebration of football in the name of former Hibernian FC Chairman, Ron Gordon, and was the first to be held at the home of Hibs, Easter Road.

The day kicked off with a Play on the Pitch Camp for juniors, giving aspiring footballers aged 5-12 the opportunity to follow in their heroes’ footsteps and play at Easter Road.

“This is the best day ever!” said one of the young participants.

“I can’t believe I played on Easter Road like Martin Boyle!”

Following the excitement of tomorrow’s stars starting the morning, attention turned to Walking Footballers, as a showcase took centre-stage through the middle of the day. Over 40 players turned out to live out their dream and play on Leith’s Hallowed Turf.

“Days like these aren’t only for the kids, it’s about everyone getting that chance to play on Easter Road,” said Paul Greig, HCF Head of Football.

“Some of these Walking Footballers have been supporting the club their entire lives and today will have been their first time on the pitch. You can’t put a value on that sort of experience.”

As the day began to heat up Youth Footballers from all over Edinburgh took to the pitch to showcase their skills in small-sided festival matches. Closing out the day was an Adults’ Football Festival, challenging for the Ron Gordon Football Classic trophy; eventually won by local team Turnball’s Tornadoes.

In total, 320 footballers turned out over the course of the day, aged from as young as 4 to as experienced as 68; living their dreams and coming together to celebrate Ron Gordon’s passion for brining communities together through the love of football.

Also running on the day at Easter Road was Hibernian FC’s Open Door Day, as over 600 supporters came to Easter Road to peak behind the curtain of the home of Hibs. Activations included activities on the pitch and showcases in the stands highlighting the club’s history and areas match-goers don’t regularly get to access.

The Ron Gordon Football Classic concluded a week of high-intensity action on the playing surface as over 700 grassroots footballers, aged 7-12, competed in the Easter Road Grassroots Football Festival 2026. The players represented 54 different clubs from across Scotland, with over 220 matches playing out over the course of 12 hours of football on five evenings. Thank you to Utilita Energy Hub for sponsoring the event, and to Youth Football Scotland for additional support.

Thank you to everyone who came to Easter Road on Saturday, helping to not only raise funds for HCF but come together in celebrating a brilliant day of football and community!

Keep your eyes on our channels this week as we continue to share highlights from what was a brilliant day not only for HCF, but for the entire Hibernian Community.
