Next Saturday, March 14, a spotlight will be on the official charity of Hibernian Football Club for the 2025/26 Hibernian Community Foundation Matchday at Easter Road.
The matchday will feature a number of activations aimed at highlighting activities, programmes, and levels of support that HCF provides for members of Leith and the wider Edinburgh community. It will be the first HCF Matchday since November 2024, when Hibernian FC faced St Mirren at Easter Road.
“The Hibernian Community Foundation Matchday is all about promoting the work our team does to support the Leith and wider Edinburgh community all year round,” said Ann Brown, HCF Interim CEO.
“Since 2008 we have been hosting activities and running programmes for the under-privileged, socially isolated and hungry in the community surrounding Easter Road stadium, as well as providing access to community football through our Hibernian Community club.”
“We hope by having the spotlight on us on March 14 we can spread the word of our work, potentially reach more people who might need our help and more potential supporters.”
With Hibernian Football Club currently celebrating its150th anniversary season, the HCF Matchday serves as a timely reminder of the club’s origins. When the club first started playing organised matches, proceeds raised from those matches went to supporting those who needed it most in the Edinburgh community through clothing, food and shelter. Today, those values are kept alive by HCF through routine activities and programmes.
Hibernian Football Club CEO, Dan Barnett said “Since arriving at the Club, I have been extremely impressed with the vital work that the Community Foundation, and their volunteers, do in supporting the local community, all year round.
“The designated Community Foundation matchday will provide a great opportunity to – not only showcase – but celebrate all this exceptional effort, whilst also increasing awareness of some of their upcoming events and programmes over the next few months and how supporters can get involved.”
Hibernian Football Club has always been intrinsically linked to the community surrounding Easter Road and throughout Edinburgh, and HCF is a key way in which those in the community and at the stadium remain connected.
Since forming in 2008, HCF has focused primarily on two areas: community and football. Through community programmes and activities, approximately 50 hours of support are offered a week through programmes for the elderly, underprivileged and socially isolated; while roughly 35 hours of football are provided through the Hibernian Community Club and Football For All initiatives.
In 2025, it is estimated that over 21,000 meals were served out of the Hibernian Community Hub in Easter Road’s Famous Five Stand, through a combination of community meals, multicultural meals, and feeding 500 from Easter Road on Christmas Day.
There are currently over 230 young footballers in the Hibernian Community Club, representing Hibernian in competitions across Scotland. In addition to the Community Club, HCF provided over 1,110 children access to football throughout 2025 Hibs’ Heroes Camps across four locations.
