Hibernian Community Foundation is thrilled to announce the resounding success of the Hibernian Girls’ Football Festival, a two-day event that showcased the incredible talent and enthusiasm of young female footballers.
Sponsored by our official charity partner, Hibs.net, the festival brought together players, coaches, officials, and families for a weekend of exciting matches and community spirit.
The festival, held over two 12-hour days, featured an impressive line-up of 60 teams from 34 unique clubs. With age groups ranging from U10 to U14, a total of 802 players, aged 7 to 14, took to the field to demonstrate their skills and passion for the game.
Across the two days, 145 matches were played in various formats including 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11, totalling an astonishing 3,625 minutes of football.
The smooth running of the festival was made possible by a dedicated team of 6 staff members and 8 volunteers, who worked tirelessly to ensure that every aspect of the event was well-organised and enjoyable for all participants. Additionally, 21 match officials were on hand to oversee the games, ensuring fair play and fostering a positive environment for the young athletes.
The Hibernian Girls’ Football Festival was not just about competition; it was also a celebration of community. Families and friends gathered to support their teams, creating an atmosphere of encouragement and camaraderie.
The festival provided a platform for young girls to not only showcase their talents but also to learn valuable lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and respect.
Head of Football, Paul Greig, said:
“The success of the Hibernian Girls Festival is a testament to the dedication and passion of everyone involved.
“We are incredibly proud to have hosted such a fantastic event that highlights the importance of women’s football and inspires the next generation of female athletes.”
As the final whistle blew and the festival came to a close, there was a palpable sense of achievement and joy amongst the players. The Hibernian Girls’ Football Festival not only celebrated the talent and dedication of young female footballers but also reinforced the importance of community and support in the development of youth sports.
Hibernian Community Foundation looks forward to hosting future events and continuing to promote and nurture the growth of girls’ football.
