Hibernian Host Lipscomb Academy

Alongside Hibernian F.C, the Foundation hosted Lipscomb Academy, a girls’ high school soccer team from Nashville, Tennessee.

The group that visited Edinburgh consisted of 14 students and 3 staff members as they participated in numerous activities across the Foundation and the Club.

After arriving in Scotland, the team trained and played an international friendly at HTC, before volunteering at our Hibs Heroes Holiday Camps in Dunbar and at our Monday Lunch Club in the Community Hub of Easter Road.

The squad then enjoyed an evening with club chaplains Derek and Catriona Lamont and ended their visit by attending a Hibernian Women’s game at Meadowbank.

Head of Football for the Foundation, Paul Greig, commented:

“We were delighted to host Lipscomb Academy recently, as the student athlete group visited the capital.

“We worked closely with Jill and Andrew from Carberry Tower, and Megan from Lipscomb Academy, to put together a programme of events that showcased a variety of initiatives and programmes that we operate.

“It was a fantastic opportunity for us to connect and share the work we do within the local community whilst highlighting the cultural diversity that football provides.”

Megan Sullivan, Athletics Academic and Spiritual Formation Director for Lipscomb Academy, added:

“We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Hibernian Football Club and Community Foundation. Hibs provided an arena where our football student-athletes’ unique gifts and passions could bind together with an innate desire to genuinely connect with others through sport.

“During our time with Hibs, we experienced a broader unity through the game. The common language of football helped us build relationships and foster friendships quickly.

“The sincere hospitality from the community towards us made a memorable week that transformed the global perspective of our student-athletes. We are immensely grateful and hope to be back to visit Scotland soon.”
