Did you know that whenever you purchase merchandise at the Hibernian Club Shop you can donate to support the Hibernian Community Foundation? As simple as hitting a button on the Point of Sale machine, the proceeds of the donations go towards a raft of our programmes: junior football, community meals, events for the elderly and Team United’s ambitions to deliver football for neurodiverse athletes.
Fanatics, Hibernian club shop operator and partner, joined forces with Pennies in 2024 to help foundations across British football give back to their community partners and charities.
Over the course of the first half of the 2024-25 season Hibs’ ranked first across all Fanatics’ stores for singular donations made, and third for accumulative amount raised, finishing the year with £1,916 donated. For five months across the end of 2024 Hibs were consecutively ranked first amongst affiliated stores for percentage of transactions making a donation, peaking in December with 19.7%.
The festive period, a noticeably busy time for the club shop, was particularly successful for donations as patrons were able to opt to donate more than the usual 50p. The final donation figure for December was £768, the highest such figure for a single store across any month in 2024. The funds raised at this time of the year went towards HCF’s Christmas Appeal activities, most notably the Feed the 500 at Easter Road on Christmas Day.
What makes the feat even more impressive is that donations at Easter Road out-perform stores such as Sunderland, Everton, Twickenham and Wembley. This not only speaks volumes of the generosity of Hibs’ fans, but also their connection to members of the community.
“From day one of taking donations we’ve seen nothing but incredible generosity from Hibs’ fans,” says Neil Bastiani, Store Manager for Hibernian Direct.
“Christmas is always going to be a busy time of year so we expected great results from the fanbase, but it never seems to slow. We’re a big community club and we really see that with these donations.”
Following Christmas there was a slight drop in donations with January taking 16.3% of all transactions, still raising £333 in the process. In February over a fifth of all transactions (21.09%) chose to donate, totalling £373, while March saw 22.10% of purchases conversions, making for £588 in total donations. March now sits atop all other months as the highest percentage of donations for the entirety of the 2025/26 season.
Since the initiative began, the club store has averaged 19.7% of all transactions choosing to donate, meaning £3,209.50 has been donated to HCF’s various activities.
HCF would like to thank all fans who have made the choice to donate over the course of the initiative beginning, and would encourage any and all visitors to donate on their next visit to the club store. With a new kit range coming for the club’s 150th anniversary there is plenty of quality merchandise to buy, and plenty of good reasons to donate to HCF.
