The Inaugural Ron Gordon 24-Hour Football Challenge Raises Over £32,000!

The Hibernian Community Foundation’s 24-hour football challenge in memory of our late Executive Chairman, Ron Gordon, raised more than £32,000 and counting!

These funds will be directly invested back into the local community and will help fund our Foundation outreach programmes and our Community Lunches.

As a result of the outstanding fundraising success, we can officially announce that the Foundation will be hosting three free lunches per week, with a brand-new Community Lunch being made available on Friday afternoons at Easter Road.

The 24-hour event was proudly sponsored by Utilita Giving, who aid people in fuel and food poverty in England, Scotland and Wales.

It was a fantastic occasion that featured 441 players at HTC with local clubs, charities and supporters joining forces with members of the Hibernian FC staff – which included Lee Johnson, David Gray, Darren McGregor and Jamie McAllister.

The Gordon family were in attendance for large parts of the weekend and were touched by the love and support that the wider Hibernian family provided.

As a thank you to everyone who took part in the event, the Gordon family have generously donated a significant amount to the overall funds raised, allowing the Foundation to further contribute within our community.

Donations are still coming in online, with the Just Giving page remaining open until Saturday July 8 at 3pm.

The Community Lunches aim to combat the cost-of-living crisis many families are suffering from and will aid families over the school’s summer holidays. Plenty of food and fun will be provided for all members of our community across July and August.

Starting this Friday (30 June) between 12pm-2pm members of the local community can head along to our Community Foundation Hub in the Famous Five Stand of Easter Road – where they will receive soup and toasties and have plenty of fun playing pool, table tennis and table football. Arts & crafts and PlayStation games are available too!

Additional food resources are also kindly provided by Empty Kitchens Full Hearts – who turn surplus food into healthy meals for those who need them. You can find out more about Empty Kitchens Full Hearts here!

The Foundation will still continue to host lunches every Monday between 12:30pm-2pm in the West Stand and every Wednesday between 12:30pm-2pm in the Community Hub.

Chair of the Community Foundation, Mags McPherson, commented:

“We would like to send out a massive thank you to all of those who participated in the 24-hour challenge and to everyone who has donated to such a great cause.

“Equally, a huge thanks to Utilita for sponsoring the event and to all of the Club’s coaches and players for their support throughout.

“A special thank you must be passed on to the Gordon family. Their donation has showcased the commitment they have for giving back to our community and will leave a long lasting legacy within our Foundation.

“The money raised will be going back into our community. Starting from this Friday we will be providing three free lunches a week from the stadium for an entire year and the extra funds allows us to continue growing our Community Football Programmes.

“This has been a pivotal event for our Foundation.”
