Volunteers Week At HCF: Meet Peter

As we celebrate Volunteers Week, the Hibernian Community Foundation is taking this opportunity to shine a light on those that make a difference and make our programmes and activities possible.

One such individual is Peter, a dedicated member of our volunteers team who is a regular in the Community Hub for Community Lunches and Multicultural Meals, among many other events.

Peter first visited the Community Hub as a lunch attendee, before realising there might be an opportunity to help out and support the community around him,

“My cousin had read about the Foundation and came along with me,” said Peter.

“We both had a look around and thought ‘yeah, this is a really good place to be.”

Peter was coming to lunches for a month before asking if he could help out at a higher level, with the team all too happy to welcome him aboard given his positive demeanour and willingness to help-out.

“I like working away and keeping busy, I don’t really like just standing about.”

Volunteering with HCF is about so much more than just helping serve those community members who come to our meals, it’s also about finding a community within the team and finding a way to spend your time meaningfully.

“The other volunteers are great, it’s great to talk and work with them, making new friends.”

“There’s a lot of good things about volunteering here. It’s great to meet people every day, and different people. Talking to people every day, both the volunteers and the people that come for lunch.”

With over 100 volunteers supporting HCF over the course of a year across all programmes and initiatives, Peter is just one of many stories to tell this week. We’re always looking to grow our volunteer team, but don’t take it from us as to why you should get involved:

“I would recommend volunteering highly. There’s a good group of people, you can talk to them about anything. I feel extremely comfortable here.”
