Hibernian Community Foundation is thrilled to announce that our community lunches will be moving to the Hibernian Supporters Club, Sunnyside, during the refurbishment of the Famous Five Stand!
This will mean that our three weekly Lunch Clubs can continue uninterrupted for the rest of this season, and throughout summer, as work on creating a new Community Hub gets underway. News of the redevelopment of the stand was announced by the club in February.
Our community lunch started in 2016, initially serving around 50 people from the local community each week in the West Stand hospitality suites. Since moving to the Community Hub in the Famous Five Stand in 2022, demand has steadily grown, with over 1,000 meals being prepared and served each month.
Steve Smith, Chair of the Foundation, said:
“We sometimes have up to a 100 people using our lunch service, so we were desperate to find a home nearby. We looked at a few options but the minute we saw the facilities at the Hibernian Supporters Club, we knew it would be perfect.”
The community lunch programme is the central pillar in the Foundation’s response to the cost of living crisis that is affecting our fans, their families and vulnerable people in our community. It is delivered by a team of dedicated volunteers, and in partnership with food charity Empty Kitchens, Full Hearts.
Tom Hall, Vice-Chairman of the Hibernian Supporters Club, said,
“We have long known about the Foundation’s lunch, and are massively behind what the club does for the community. One of our members regularly volunteers at the lunch, so when we were asked if we could help, it was a no-brainer really.”
Service at our temporary new home will start this Friday (12 April), and continue as before every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12pm-2pm.
