The Hibernian Community Foundation Walking Football team took part in their first ever competitive tournament on Sunday 26 November.
The squad travelled up to Kirkcaldy to participate in their first competitive games as a team in the Raith Rovers Christmas Cup 2023.
A squad of 10 players, all aged over 50-years-old, ran out at Starks Park with the event being used as a learning experience for the team, before beginning their first campaign in the Over 50s East Walking Football League in 2024.
Hibs made it through the Group Stages with 7 points out of 9 following two 2-0 wins over Fife Wanderers and Arbroath and picked up a point in a 2-2 draw with eventual champions Raith Rovers.
The team unfortunately fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Dundee based Fairfield in the Semi-Finals but kept their heads held high following an impressive showing.
Hibernian Community Foundation began their weekly Walking Football session back in May, with the players now taking the next step into playing competitively and representing the Club and Foundation in the 2024 season as well as Club Festivals.
The Foundation still have a weekly Friday social game at 3.45pm at Leith Academy 3G AstroTurf.
