Hibernian Community Foundation Feed 500 on Christmas Day!

Hibernian Community Foundation fed 500 members of the local community from Easter Road Stadium on Christmas Day!

Thanks to the incredible backing by fans, the Foundation was able to provide 500 lunches to members of our local community on Christmas Day.

We opened the doors to Easter Road Stadium at 11:30 and welcomed in a number of festive faces from various regions across Edinburgh and the Lothians. After creating a room full of Christmas spirit with music and games, we served a full Christmas lunch and all came together to enjoy the meal.

Hibernian Head Coach, Nick Montgomery, and various members of the First Team and Women’s squad were in attendance and helped our services by serving meals and distributing Christmas presents to children.

In addition to the meals served directly from Easter Road, the Foundation ran a food deliveries service for those who struggled to make it along to the stadium, ensuring everyone was able to enjoy a warm meal.

Due to the continued cost-of-living crisis, the Foundation provided food hampers to further help those who are struggling over this festive season.

We would like to thank all of our wonderful volunteers who gave up their own time on Christmas Day and created an unforgettable day for those within the community. Without their incredible commitment and compassion, none of our work would be possible.

We would also like to thank our supporters who have been instrumental in pulling this together. Our Christmas Appeal allowed us to raise money through direct donations and our Silent Auction. The generosity of Hibees from across Edinburgh and further afield has seen us raise over £35,000, helping us create a special Christmas within our community.

The 2023 Christmas Appeal was also supported by Utilita Giving, with special thanks to The Ellen & Ian Graham Charitable Foundation.

The ability to bring Christmas cheer and warmth to those who needed it most was the Foundation’s main goal following the creation and implementation of our Christmas Appeal at the beginning of December. We are delighted that we were able to fulfil our promise and hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.

Head of Community, Lewis Melee, highlighted the importance of this year’s Christmas Appeal and is grateful for the immense support:

“After an incredibly tough year for so many families within our community, we are completely blown away by the support that we have received.

“We have provided so many meals throughout 2023 with the introduction of our Lunch Clubs. To welcome in so many people and serve everyone a meal on Christmas Day was truly special and showcases the Foundation’s hard work.”

Director of the Foundation, Daljit Singh, added:

“We had an unbelievable day providing 500 Christmas lunches from Easter Road.

“The community spirit that has been on show across December has been overwhelming and to achieve our goal of feeding 500 from Easter Road was brilliant.

“After a successful 2023, we are looking forward to expanding our services following the New Year and hope we can continue our development within our community.”
